Technician Grade (TIFireE)
The Technician Grade is the first membership level that has a grade and post nominal designation. Members at the Technician Grade will have demonstrated that they have obtained relevant qualifications in the field of fire engineering. Applicants for Technician will have achieved an IFE Level 3 Certificate through examinations or have relevant academic qualifications to the level of NVQ3 or UK Sub Officer/Junior Officer 2 examinations; plus the necessary experience required to demonstrate that they meet the competence based requirements for this grade. Applicants for the Technician Grade will typically have a minimum of two years of experience in fire engineering.
Applicants with CET registration or graduation from a recognized educational program such as a diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology may also qualify for equivalency of the examination requirements.
Applicants for the Technician Grade will provide along with their application, evidence of 25 hours of Continuing Professional Development over 12 months.

Mature Candidate Route
Individuals without the formal academic qualifications necessary for the grade of Technician may submit an application via the Mature Candidate Route. Applicants will be required to demonstrate 12 years of increasing responsibility in fire engineering and, by submitting a technical paper, that they have achieved a standard of competence comparable to contemporaries who achieved the Technician Grade by academic achievement.
