Student Membership
The Student Membership is the ideal entry route for young applicants getting into the field of fire engineering. This level of membership provides a reduced rate for the annual dues while allowing Student Members all the access and benefits of being a member of the Institution. As an individual studying in the field of fire engineering, fire fighting or fire protection, the Institution can offer a wealth of resources in the form of mentoring, professional development and educational seminars that provide a great exposure to the professions of fire engineering.
Individuals following a recognized, ongoing program of study, typically of at least six months are eligible to apply for this level of membership. Programs are ideally directly related to fire engineering such as a diploma in Fire Protection Engineering, a Public Safety or Administration degree focusing on fire or Firefighter Pre-Service training. Other courses of study may also be eligible if the individual is expressing an interest in fire engineering, fire safety or firefighting. Individuals who are studying for and enrolling in IFE Examinations are also eligible for Student Membership. As long as the member continues to satisfy the eligibility requirements, he or she can remain at the Student Membership level for up to five years.
Once a Student Member no longer meets the requirements of being a student, or has been a Student Member for five years, he or she can then apply to upgrade to a membership grade or transfer to Affiliate Status.
