A message from William (Bill) Stewart, past President of IFE Canada Branch
Past President, IFE Canada Mr. William A Stewart CFIFireE, CMMIII William Stewart served as the Fire Chief of the Toronto Fire Services from May 1, 2003 to April 30, 2012 at which time he retired from the Service, after serving the City and citizens of Toronto for thirty- nine and half years. Prior to the amalgamation of the new City of Toronto on January 1, 1998, William Stewart served in the former City of North York Fire Department for twenty- six years. Heserved as an operations fire fighter, Fire Captain, Administration Chief and Assistant Deputy Chief. On the creation of the new Toronto Fire Services he was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief and ultimately as the Fire Chief of Canada’s largest municipal fire department. William Stewart is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council as well as a former Director of the National Fire Protection Association in the United States. Further he served as a former Director of Aleafia Health Inc. having served on the Private and Public Boards of the Company. Mr. Stewart is committed to lifelong learning, and is a past Board Member of the Public Administration and Governance Program, Ryerson University. Mr. Stewart has also served as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces as a commissioned and non-commissioned officer. William Stewart holds professional designations from various institutions including the: Institution of Fire Engineers, Companion Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers, CFIFireE; Ontario Municipal Management Institute, Certified Municipal Manager CMMIII and the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, Chief Fire Officer, CFO.
Past President, IFE Canada Mr. Phil Bott GIFireE, CFSI Phil is the immediate Past president of IFE Canada, and current Division Chief, Fire & Emergency Services, FESTI Pearson International Airport. Phil Bott started his firefighting career with the Clifford Volunteer Fire Department in 1999 and developed from an Auxiliary Firefighter to Assistant Training Officer. He attended Lambton college for Fire Science Technology in 2001 and graduated top of his class in 2004. Throughout his schooling he spent 4 co-op terms with the GTAA Fire and Emergency Services Training Division.
In November of 2004 he accepted a position with the GTAA as a Firefighter. In 2007 he was promoted to Captain/Fire Service Instructor. Currently he is a Division Chief at GTAA and instructs the following courses: Confined Space Entry, Hazardous Materials - Operations and Technician levels, Medical Operations including CPR, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillation, and Fire Extinguisher training. Division Chief Bott is certified by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and Oklahoma State University for several National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
