Barn Fires and Farm Animals Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery Professional Development Event
The very recent barn fire in Quinte West, Ontario was an unfortunate piece of news to be shared early in December as we were preparing the release of this event. The concerns and necessity of the educational event will surely be held closely to all those that have dealt with these tragic events in the past and are responsible for the care and response to any future events. We look forward to the information shared at the event and seeing you there! Attend the Event in person at the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre in Downsview, at 25 Morton Shulman Avenue or from any convenient location via WebEx.

UNDERSTANDING HOARDING DISORDER, INTERVENTIONS AND STRATEGIES FOR RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY MANAGERS
Hoarding is the persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of their actual value. The behaviour usually has deleterious effects that include emotional, physical, social, financial, and even legal for a hoarder. A tenant who is hoarding puts other residents at risk, and in the event of a fire, it can put the building, neighbours and emergency responders at risk as well. Understanding how to deal with a tenant who hoards in a sensitive, effective way is important and should be included in a building maintenance plan. Student Registrations are only for those registered as full time students. Attendees will receive 1.5 hours of CPD Education Credit.

2015 Seminar on Emergency Responder PTSD
The IFE Canada Branch CPD on PTSD: Emergency Responder Mental Health was a great success. Professionals dealing with PTSD and emergency responders at various levels brought insight and understanding to the many facets of emergency response; the personnel on scene, the administration, science and research behind them and the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of PTSD.
As we slowly begin to recognize and understand the effects of traumatic incidents on all levels of first responders, the need to build an entire framework of support becomes apparent. With the insights and experience of those that presented, we were able to see how wide spread and involved the process of supporting those that respond to these incidents really needs to be. It was an exceptional opportunity to hear these speakers present their knowledge, passion, personal experience and professionalism on this important topic. We thank the over 65 attendees from all over Ontario and Canada, IFE's International President Neil Gibbins who travelled from the UK, the organizers of the event and the presenters for making this seminar an opportunity to open doors to discussion and relationships which will shape the future of how we respond. |
