President, IFE Canada Mr. Lui Tai P. Eng., AIFireE
Lui Tai, P. Eng., AIFireE is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 32 years of practical experience working in the fire protection engineering industry in Canada. Lui holds / has held professional engineering licenses in 6 provinces in Canada, and was also licensed in UAE as a House of Expertise for the Civil Defence of Dubai. Lui contributes his knowledge back to the community by regularly giving technical presentations and writing articles to share his knowledge in the field of fire protection engineering. Lui was part of the Ministry of Housing’s Technical Advisory Committee for reviewing of changes to Part 3 of the Ontario Building Code, as well as the City of Toronto’s Interagency Working Group on Fire and Life Safety Systems. Lui is passionate in giving back to the engineering profession and fire protection industry. His many volunteer positions include being the Chair of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) York Chapter for 2 years; being the President of Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) Ontario Chapter for 2 years; being an industrial advisor for York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering, and now, Lui also took on the role of the President for The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), Canada Branch. Professionally, Lui is a consulting engineer specialist in the fire protection industry. Lui assists clients in navigating the building code and fire code, and uses objective-based approach to prepare Alternative Solutions to resolve complex issue for clients. Lui leads a team of engineers and technologist to complete complex multi-million-dollar projects in Canada and around the world, including Pearson International Airport Terminal 1 and 3, North Warning System near the North Pole, many Ontario Power Generation Stations across Ontario and Abu Dhabi Mid-field Terminal in UAE. Lui is also a professor (part-time) at Seneca’s School of Fire Protection.
Ben joined the Institution of Fire Engineers, Canada Branch in 1999 and served as National Treasurer 2007-2017, with other year as Board member. He has a strong background in fire protection and emergency service from his 20+ years as Fire Safety Inspection, Service, Solution technician, Supervisor, Fire Specialist, and Sr. Service Specialist at Siemens Canada Ltd. Building Technologies Division, Fire Safety. Ben also served 40+ years with St. John Ambulance where he is Certified First Aid, CPR & AED Instructor, Ret’d Medical First Response Unit Chief, and an active Board member with Toronto Board. He also served with the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Ben was admitted and promoted to the Order of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem as Officer Rank, OSt.J; awarded Long Service Medal & 3 Service Gilt Bar for 40 years service with St. John Ambulance; The Ontario Volunteer Service Awards 10 years from Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration.
Ben also holds professional designations from various institutions including the Institution of Fire Engineers, Graduate of the Institution of Fire Engineers, GIFireE; National Fire Protection Association, with both Certified Fire Inspector II, CFI-II and Certificated Fire & Life Safety Educator II; Canadian Fire Alarm Association Registered Fire Alarm Technician; The Ontario Association of Certificated Engineering Technicians and Technologists, C.Tech. Ben brings a wealth of experience to the IFE Executive Board as well as many other associations including the Canadian Fire Alarm Association, Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) and Support Enhance Access Service (SEAS) Center.

Honourable National Secretary; IFE Canada Mr. Trevor Brice
Trevor Brice is a seasoned Fire Service leader with over 35 years’ experience in all aspects of leading career and combination fire departments in Canada, the United Kingdom and strategically for Municipal Affairs (Government of Alberta) and the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
Trevor has been a member of the IFE since joining the fire service in 1983 and successfully completed the preliminary certificate, graduate and members examinations. In the UK he was an active IFE member and treasurer of the Midlands branch.
Trevor holds a Master in Business Administration, Master of Arts in Leadership, and multiple designations, Executive Chief Fire Officer (ECFO), Chief Fire Officer (CFO), and Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
Gurjot Manku B.Sc., C.E.T., AIFireE holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Fire & Life Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati, an Advanced Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology from Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology, and a Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety from Ryerson University. He is a Certified Engineering Technologist, Certified Fire Alarm Technician and an Associate member with the Institute of Fire Engineers. In the last decade, his work experience in the Fire Protection field has included working as a Fire Alarm Technician, Sprinkler Fitter, Project Manager, Fire Prevention Officer, Health & Safety Specialist and managing an internal team of Certified Fire Alarm Technicians at Cadillac Fairview.
Honourable National Treasurer, IFE Canada Mr. Gurjot Manku CET, AIFireE
Past President, IFE Canada Mr. Phil Bott GIFireE, CFSI
Phil is the immediate Past president of IFE Canada, and current Division Chief, Fire & Emergency Services, FESTI Pearson International Airport. Phil Bott started his firefighting career with the Clifford Volunteer Fire Department in 1999 and developed from an Auxiliary Firefighter to Assistant Training Officer. He attended Lambton college for Fire Science Technology in 2001 and graduated top of his class in 2004. Throughout his schooling he spent 4 co-op terms with the GTAA Fire and Emergency Services Training Division.
In November of 2004 he accepted a position with the GTAA as a Firefighter. In 2007 he was promoted to Captain/Fire Service Instructor. Currently he is a Division Chief at GTAA and instructs the following courses: Confined Space Entry, Hazardous Materials - Operations and Technician levels, Medical Operations including CPR, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillation, and Fire Extinguisher training. Division Chief Bott is certified by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and Oklahoma State University for several National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
With more than 20 years of experience protecting critical infrastructure, high-rise buildings, mass venues, and facilities with vulnerable populations, Jason is recognized across Canada for his deep expertise and innovative best practices integrating fire and emergency management. A respected leader, Jason is known for his trusted counsel and his passion for sharing critical lessons learned.
Jason developed the Fire, Safety and Emergency Management Program for the 14.5-acre Toronto Eaton Centre and high-rise commercial towers, creating the first CFAA certified "in house" Team in Canada. He also served as Platoon Chief and Supervisor in the Emergency Services Department for BOMBARDIER Aerospace in Toronto, an active airport and industrial facility spanning more than 24 million square feet. Jason led the development teams for numerous multifaceted projects in Canada, including a CBRNE awareness level; accredited training program for security & first responders - Internationally accredited to NFPA 472 Standards, Ontario's only accredited fire safety training program for building Owners and Managers. He also serves as technical advisor for Safe Buildings Tech Inc, the world's first digital fire safety plan program.
Jason has served as Chair of the Fire and Emergency Management Committee for Resilient Communities Ontario, and Chair of the Emergency Management Committee for the Building Owners and Management Association Toronto (BOMA). He currently serves as Director of Professional Development for the Ontario Association of Emergency Managers, and he is also an active, long time Board member with the Institution of Fire Engineers, Canada Branch.
Jason is an instructor for the Province of Ontario in Emergency Management (BEM) and a certified Crisis Communications Planner. He is certified in federal programs for Emergency Operations Centre Management and Site Incident Command.
